Holy Cross School has been accepting International Students for over 7 years. With over 30 different cultures represented at Holy Cross, International Students find it easy fitting in to the warm, support and diverse ethnic environment.
Code: Holy Cross School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Health and Travel Insurance: Most International Students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are:
A resident or citizen of Australia; or
A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more.
If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Therefore medical insurance is compulsory for International Students. Conditions of Enrolment:
- A school interview between a representative of the school, the prospective student and parent/guardian(s) is part of the enrolment procedure.
- The school reserves the right to rescind contractual obligations regarding the student's education in the event of a student presenting health/behaviour issues e.g. special needs which have not been disclosed.
- The school reserves the right to modify the student's programme following internal school assessment.
- Regular school attendance is a condition of enrolment. A parent/designated caregiver must inform the school in writing if the student is absent. If the student is absent without informing the school for 15 or more consecutive school days he/she will be removed from the school register, the immigration service will be informed and the student visa will be withdrawn.
- If the student is a Catholic, the preference Card must be signed by a Catholic priest in New Zealand.
- The law of New Zealand governs this enrolment contract.
- Enrolment is conditional on the student living with a parent Year 1-6 or parent or designated caregiver approved by the parent. For year 7& 8, if the student is living with a designated caregiver a representative of the school will visit the designated caregiver's home on enrolment. Refer Accommodation Policy.
Tuition Fees: $2,120 per school term, $8,480 per annum plus GST
This includes:
- Cost of tuition
- General Administration Costs
- Proprietor's Levy
- Annual Ministry Code of Practice Levy
- Cost of stationery, class trips and other school related expenditure
- Catholic Schools Office Attendance Dues.
Uniform costs are not included and are the responsibility of parents/guardians.
Orientation Programme: On enrolment the parents/guardians and student will be given a tour of the school. The tour will include a visit to the student's class and meeting the student's teacher if possible.
Pastoral Care: A Pastoral Care Officer/Councilor is available to all students. This person works on Monday and Wednesdays from the meeting room.
Withdrawal Procedures: The parent/guardian must inform the school office prior to the withdrawal of a student. The school will then notify the immigration service as the student permit only allows the student to study at the school named on the study visa. The immigration service will then cancel the student visa. Refer also to School policy on International Student Fees Refunds.
Course of Study: Students will study primary school subjects as outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework documents. These subjects include: English, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Health and Physical Education and Technology. Students will also study Religious Education as part of the school curriculum.
Students will receive extra English language support lessons as part of their study.
Year 7 & 8 students will also receive tuition in a second language French or Chinese or German. Year 7 & 8 students also attend Bruce MacLaren Intermediate once a week, for Technology classes.
Grievance Procedure: The school operates a complaints policy, a copy is attached.
Student
If school related problems arise the student will inform the class teacher in the first instance, and the classroom teacher will aim to address the problem promptly. If the problem persists, the student will inform the school Principal, who will seek to remedy the problem to achieve the best outcome possible for all parties.
If language barriers exist an effort will be made to provide an interpreter.
Parents
Parents/guardians may bring school related concerns to the Principal, and class related concerns to the class teacher.
If concerns are not resolved to your satisfaction you may contact the International appeal authority (IEASA). Information regarding this authority can be accessed through website http://www.minedu3.govt.nz/go .
Recognition of Prior Learning: Relevant student information regarding previous schooling will be completed as part of the enrolment procedure.
Address Details: You are required to notify the school of any change in your contact details and residential address.
Termination of Tuition
The school will terminate tuition if:
- The student is absent from school for 15 school days or more and has provided no reason for the absence.
- The student is expelled.
- The school can no longer offer an appropriate course of education.
Fees Refund: In the event of the school being unable to continue a suitable programme, the Board guarantees that the unspent portion of fees will be refunded to parents. If a parent withdraws a child from the school he/she may be entitled to a refund of fees. Refer to International Students Refund of Fees Policy.
Fee Protection Procedure: A student may enroll for six months (1 semester) or 1 year (2 semesters). Tuition fees are paid on enrolment.
Fees are recognised as income in advance until those fees become current, when they are then recognised as operating income.
Holy Cross welcomes International Students but limits the number of International Students to 2% of its maximum roll. At present this equals 10 students per year.
